Good eye/hand coordination and good dexterity are necessary for this course as sharp knives are used in the cutting of board and paper.
You will be shown correct procedure in the use of these tools but good co-ordination will assure accurate cutting and prevention of injury.
Closed in shoes MUST be worn at all times.
The Simplified Binding falls into the category of fine bindings and was developed by the French binder Sun Evrard in 1984. Although the binding takes a little longer to complete than a traditional case binding it is well worth the extra time.
This binding differs from a traditionally rounded and backed case binding in that the covers are attached to the outside of the rounded spine. This allows the binder to be creative and use different materials for the spine and the covers. If time permits, a slipcover will also be made to protect this precious book.
This workshop will introduce participants to a new style of binding and thus add to your repertoire of hand-bound books.
All materials will be provided and are included in the workshop fee. Please bring your usual tools although spares are available at the bindery. Tea and coffee are available but bring lunch.
